In 2016, there were only three neurologists in all of Zambia–and they were all foreigners who might leave when life or career dictates. One of them, Dr. Omar Siddiqi, established a bold plan to bring two American medical educators to Zambia for two years to train new medical school graduates in this critically important specialty.

With a high disease load due to HIV and low health literacy, this project had the potential to save thousands of lives. By working with Omar and his colleagues, we created a marketing package to help him raise the necessary funds to start training local physicians. The foreign doctors are still there, but now Zambians can be seen by Zambian neurologists who speak their languages, know their cultures, and have the shared pride of One Zambia–One Nation!
